Types of foam

Different grades of foam are produced by varying proportions and types of ingredients and processing conditions, with each grade designed to suit specific applications.

Even though two foams look exactly alike, they may feel and perform entirely different. However, the properties of foam can be identified and specified very precisely. The foam industry utilizes a number of measurements and tests to accomplish this. By using these measurements, it’s possible to pinpoint the right foam for the right application.

The type or grade of foam is identified based on an Australian Standard classification, eg AA23-130, where each symbol has the following significance:

AA   Tells us the foam type or brand.
23   This means the average density of this grade is 23 kg/m3.
130   This defines the hardness of the foam in Newtons.

Dunlop Foams manufacture many different grades of foam for a multitude of furniture, bedding and industrial uses. Common foam types include:

AA - Utility grades of foam that do not fall into any of the brands/types listed below.
HS - Hypersoft brand foams that are generally suited for use as overlays, soft backs, quilting etc.
